In 1908, an unknown writer was chosen by Andrew Carnegie, the richest man in the world, to undertake a very special project – interview the most influential and wealthy leaders to determine the common denominator among them for attaining success. That young man was Napoleon Hill, and the book that grew from those interviews was Think and Grow Rich, the bible of personal development and the 20th best-selling book in the history of the world.
Exactly 100 years later the Napoleon Hill Foundation selected two gifted individuals to follow in Hill’s historic footsteps and modernize his classic work by interviewing the most celebrated and gifted minds of our modern era. Sharon Lechter and Greg Reid focused their query on a core component of the Think and Grow Rich philosophy by asking one simple question: What inspired you despite overwhelming challenges, dismal odds and discouraging setback to persevere on your quest?
Now, more than ever, we need a reminder that in order to achieve greatness our determination must be more powerful that any obstacles confronted. Great pains are prerequisites to great gains. There are no shortcuts. First there is a dream, and then there is struggle followed by victory. The admonition is to not be a footnote in history like R. U. Darby. Who was he? He was a miner during the California Gold Rush who threw in the towel and sold his claim for a hundred dollars. The man who bought the claim dug only ‘three feet’ before striking one of the richest gold veins in history.

    Positive and Inspirational
The book reads like a novel and yet it is a compilation of numerous biographies of successful people who became leaders in their respective industries without compromising their integrity. The most insightful part of the book is the implementation guide in which invaluable resources guide readers to becoming the best version of themselves.

“I Am Now Transforming My Obstacles into Opportunities”
The book reminded me in some ways of the One Minute Manager books. Rather than simply laying out the content in a text book format or a series of short anecdotes, it’s written as a novel. What I love about this style of teaching is that it is both educational and entertaining. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. Stories are generally easier for people to remember than mere facts. In this story, a man named Greg is going through personal adversity in his business and his personal life. Greg meets a super-successful businessman, Jonathon Buckland. During his personal journey, he meets with a series of real life successful men and women who share their secrets of success–particularly the value of persistence through adversity. While the story is fictional, most of the people he meets along the way are real people with real lessons that they have learned from their own experiences. This helps bring the ideas and lessons they share out of the “ivory tower” of theory and into the real world of everyday men and women.I liked the way the main character has very real and contemporary problems, but learns how to overcome them with positive persistence and a commitment to self-improvement. As a big fan of Napoleon Hill, I loved the way Hill’s teachings are woven into the story. While Greg receives a helping hand from his friends, it’s clear that the reason they are helping him is because the gradual improvement in his own attitude and a sincere desire to help improve the lives of other people.I believe that a great book is worth more than it’s weight in gold. That is because wisdom and relationships are more valuable than money. Wise thought is the “stuff” that is used to create wealth and success. One of the points made in the book is that “you’re the same today as you will be in five years except for two things: the people you meet and the books you read.”I think that with the adversity that many people are experiencing today, the message from “Three Feet From Gold” is especially timely. Keep moving forward. Keep growing and learning. Serve others with sincerity. Consistently and persistently apply the proven, timeless principles of success and you can achieve your goals.Since you’re reading this review, you are clearly thinking about getting this book. Go ahead, buy it, read it, study it. You won’t be disappointed.

Three From Gold – Turn Your Obstacles into Opportunities
I had the pleasure of reading this book before it hit the shelves and I absolutely found it motivating. One of my all time favorites is Think and Grow Rich and in the back of my mind i thought it would be great to have a current day version of this book and that is exactly what Sharon Lechter and Greg Reid accomplished. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end and found it to be very inspirational and uplifting. I just entered the field of Network Marketing for a company in the Travel Industry and have never worked as hard as I have the last year. What this book did for me was overcome my fear of what dead end was I going to run into today. The book gave me courage to start setting a course of action and be confident in what I am doing. But mostly is reminded me that I can’t quit. Quitting is something you do when you don’t believe in yourself or the journey that you are embarking on. Quitting is an excuse for not wanting to do the things you need to do to be successful. I loved how the modern day version used terminology, situations, realistic obstacles that we all face today yet were different 75 years ago. I am excited to share this book with everyone in my network and friends and family that need that extra push, that extra encouragement, that extra knowledge on how to turn life’s obstacles into Opportunities. This is a MUST read book!!

    Strength to endure
This book literally is giving me strength to endure now in life. Just keep moving forward and one day, the doors will be open to you. Every successful person that he interviewed went through seeing no success for months and even years, but they kept trying and trying and trying and success happened. Not only did success happen their character changed while waiting for success to happen. They become more gentle, forgiving, caring, helpful, and supportive of others’ dreams. That is how the author got his start. He was very rude to someone, but that someone understood his attitude, forgive his attitude, and helped him by introducing him to his peers.

Useful, Valuable and Three Feet from Great
A good start, and a refresh on Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich – with interviews and lessons from the 21st Century. The book grabs you with the snippets of wisdom and the author’s journey. Having said that, the 5th star was elusive as it was almost too much story, and not enough meaty nuggets. I know the story is a morsel in and of itself, but I would rather have seen the approach closer to some of the other books of this type and focus on the subjects and the lesson rather than the author’s journey. A good book, and three feet from great.

J’ai eu la version audio. Je trouve ce livre bâti autour de l’histoire de R.U. Darby qui avait abandonné “à 3 pieds” de l’or très inspirante. Excellent.
