Yes, it smells – easy fix! Beautiful mat!
When I opened the package, there was a very strong chemical smell to the mat. Think noxious fumes invading the entire level of my house. This was anything but faint. I loved the quality and pattern too much to return, so I looked on other reviews to find a solution. I’m new to yoga, so I don’t have the fancy mat cleaners. I used Mrs. Meyer’s Basil cleaner twice on both sides, but it still stunk up the room. I then moved it to the garage for a day and washed it down with Clorox wipes – better, but not something I’d want to be around, let alone put my face on. At this point I’m 2 days in and still haven’t gotten rid of the smell, so I put it outside, hosed it down with water and let it dry outside all day over a chair. The smell was finally gone! I also purchased the Gaiam blocks and there’s a reason they ship those wrapped in plastic… those reeked too! But this time I went straight outside, hosed them down and let them sit on my patio table for the day. By night, they were free of smell too. FINAL SUGGESTED REMEDY: Completely drench in water and let sit outside for the day.I’m new to yoga, but have horrible joints and was apprehensive of a 6mm mat being thick enough. It’s very comfortable! I can do gate pose on hardwood without knee pain and tree pose without feeling like there’s too much give to balance on. It rolls up and out nice without curling of the corners. I’m only a week in, so I’m definitely not as graceful, or gentle, on the mat as I will be eventually. My mat doesn’t seem to care and takes the beating with grace for me. It’s a very sturdy and patient mat. The colors I chose are no longer available (Mandala Mantra), but I love the navy and red mandala pattern. When I get tired of it I can turn it over, but not any time soon. I love the versatility!

Factory Chemical Odor
The reason I’m giving this 4 stars and not 5 is because of the harsh potent chemical smell. I’m not sure if this is same for all yoga mats or if it’s just mine, but the odor is very strong and smells like my yoga mat was fresh off the factory press assembly line and then immediately sent to me. If you are someone that’s sensitive to smell be sure to open this outside first to ensure it won’t stink up your house.Other than this minor negative feedback I do love everything else about my yoga mat! It has great durability and comfort. I love the cute design and for the most part stays fairly secure on my living room carpet but still slides around occasionally for certain yoga poses.

I love this yoga mat! It is really pretty with lots of shades of blue creating a wave. We just bought a house with a room that has built in floor to ceiling wooden bookshelves on one wall, hardwood floors and another wall that is all windows. As you can see from the photo, it is currently a mess. This was moving day and things were stuck randomly all over the place. I intend to paint the room in a lovely green color. Something chosen from nature so that it will extend the colors you view from the windows. I think of it as a forest room and this is where I will do my yoga each day. The bright blue of the mat will make it feel like river running through the forest, or a forest by the sea. I love Gaiam mats. The 6mm mat offers plenty of cush for my knees and they come in lots of colors and styles. The price point is nice compared to some other popular brands. Maybe one day I will try a more expensive mat, but they aren’t as pretty as this one. It won’t stay there, but you can see the mat rolled up and tucked into the bookcase on the left side.

J’ai lu des critiques sur ce produit disant qu’il sentait fort. J’ai donc hésité à l’acheter, mais je l’ai fait et je ne le regrette pas. Je n’ai pas constaté une si forte odeur que ça lorsque j’ai déballé le tapis, et dans tous les cas elle est partie très vite. Ce tapis est beau, suffisamment épais pour protéger les articulations sensibles. Avec le temps et l’usage, il ne s’abime pas. Il répond parfaitement à mes attentes. Je le recommande
